Avalanche Pass Lake
This lake lies in a narrow pass between two mountains, which is famous for
its avalanches. The hiking trail through the pass had been
obliterated by a mass of avalanche-toppled trees.
Much of this driftwood piled up on the lakeshore is no doubt
from earlier avalanches.
The odd shapes and lines of the wood, blending into an
eerily thick fog, gives this photograph an unusual mood.
Photographed May 2006, Adirondack Mountains, NY.
